What a product video does for you

Product copy describes — product videos show. For products with functional benefits, mechanical qualities or special materials, the video is often the sales lever that even the best spec sheet can't replace. A good product video removes the question „can it really do what you claim" and replaces it with a demo.

I produce product videos that keep the product in the foreground — not in the background of a badly lit sales set-piece. Concretely: a clean shoot (lighting, camera work, detail shots, function demos), a clear story structure (what it does, how it works, what's different), motion graphics where needed (cutaway animations, data overlays, comparison splits) and sound design that makes the mechanical or material quality tangible. From a Reels cut for social to a three-minute hero video for trade fairs.

Your product video sells the product in a fraction of the time a sales conversation takes. It works on product pages, in sales decks, at trade fairs, in emails and in social ads. And it makes the product tangible before the customer actually touches it.

How I approach product videos

01 — Briefing. Which three qualities have to become clear, in which order, with which demo? A script outline before the studio day — otherwise you shoot „on a hunch".

02 — Setup. Studio setup, lighting and camera setup tuned to the product. Light glossy materials differently from matte ones, transparent differently from opaque. Test shots before the shoot.

03 — Production. Shoot with detail shots, function demos, lifestyle cuts where relevant. Shoot more material than needed — in the edit the best frames often turn up in the in-between moments.

04 — Edit & sound. Edit to the story, motion graphics for the technical details, sound design that makes product quality audible. Plus several cuts for different platform applications.

FAQ

Häufig gestellte Fragen

For products that need explaining, usually yes. A spec sheet describes — a video shows. With mechanical products, material properties or functional demos, the video often replaces the first sales call. The conversion effect on product pages is measurable — the question "can it really do what they claim" gets answered by the demo.

A single shoot usually produces 5-10 usable cuts: a hero cut for the website (60-90s), a short cut for social (15-30s), detail shots for the product page, a 5-second loop for hero animations, plus static images as a bonus. The multi-cut setup is planned before the shoot — so you don't run short of footage later.

It depends how deep the change goes. A colour change to the product? Re-coloured in post — no problem. A change in form? That needs a new shoot. So before production we establish how stable the product model is and whether a second shoot should be scheduled for later. For fast-changing products there are modular shoot setups that make later updates easier.

It depends on your audience. B2B tech: LinkedIn and the product page. B2C consumer: Instagram, TikTok, Amazon. In the showroom: a 5-metre display. Before production we clarify which platforms get which cuts — then the shoot is set up accordingly (portrait and landscape, burnt-in subtitles, colour profiles).
